2. Find a Speaker

Tips for Finding a Speaker:

Cafés might feature experts from a wide range of fields, including:

Chemistry
History of science and technology
Industries such as mining, electronics, glass, or pyrotechnics
Materials science
Physics
Physiology
Science education/entertainment (e.g., a chemistry magician)
Science journalism
Art (e.g., a glassblower or sculptor)

If you are having trouble finding a speaker, some common places to look include universities, science centers and museums, government research institutions, and professional associations such as the American Chemical Society and Materials Research Society. Try contacting the communications or public affairs offices of these institutions.

Also, scientists who have previously presented at a science café may be able to recommend other speakers. As you search for a speaker, consult the list of suggested topics on our Choose a Topic page, which may provide you with keywords and other guidance.
